About.com Picks Up KTLA Kimkins Scam Story

4 10 2007

Headlining the Low Carb Diet area of About.com today, KTLA-TV breaks Kimkins “Internet Diet Scam” Story. Laura Dolson previous warned against the Kimkins diet here, and again here.

In her latest article, she writes:

The story of the Kimkins diet scam has reached the world outside the Internet. Part one of a two-part story aired on KTLA-TV in Los Angeles last night and this morning. Part two will air tonight. Happily for us, the video is available for all to see.The story contains footage of Kimmer/Heidi Diaz, who, when questioned, merely said, “no comment”. A former Kimkins dieter was interviewed, as well as the private investigator on the case, who confirmed the identity of Kimmer and Heidi Diaz as being one and the same. A spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau said that Heidi had declined to meet with them because she is “a bit shy”.

Tonight, it sounds as though they will be focusing on the health effects of the Kimkins diet. This is especially important since more people have been coming forward with health problems, including Christin, the ex-public relations person at Kimkins. Last week, this 28 year old woman had to go to the hospital with chest pains. She was found to have a heart rate that kept going under 40. Although it thankfully doesn’t appear that Christin is in immediate danger, slow heart rate can be a result of anorexia, due to the very low calorie diet. This type of diet is similar to the Kimkins variant which Christin was on. Our community here wishes Christin all the best – she is in the thoughts and prayers of many.

It’s important to note that these health problems can often happen weeks or months after the diet is stopped, as in Christin’s case. Morals of the story: 1) Don’t risk your health with extreme diets. 2) Be careful to check out health claims carefully before participating in any unfamiliar health regimen.

Not a comment on about.com but another question. Over “there” someone asked about the people mag. with cartbabe. Kimmer said:

The woman on the cover is a Kimkins member and emailed me to let me know she mentioned kimkins in the article.

Is that true?

Thanks – I know, about 10 minutes. Nice that someone saw it! I figured I’d give it a try. I expected to be banned long before, and now, needless to say, I officially am!

Jimmy Moore Follows Up on Christin’s Story

Please note, the following is a repost from Livin’ La Vida Low Carb. We have edited to remove graphics and embedded video.

Kimkins cover girl: “I was wrong…Kimkins is not the way to lose weight”

It takes a very special person to publicly admit when they were wrong about something even after multiple warnings and concerns shared by those around them. And yet that is exactly what has happened this week when Kimkins Woman’s World cover girl Christin delivered an impassioned video apology at her blog along with a detailed explanation of the health complications she and others have suffered since beginning the risky low-carb imposter diet scheme devised by a morbidly obese woman named Heidi Diaz.

I blogged about my concerns over the Kimkins fiasco that culminated earlier this week when this beautiful young woman had to be rushed to the emergency room because of some pain in her chest and heart complications. When you hear something like this happening that was brought on by such an extreme low-fat/low-calorie diet like Kimkins, it should make you angry. AND I AM ANGRY ABOUT IT!

To anyone who is still on the Kimkins diet, CHRISTIN has a message just for YOU (link to video)

Show your support for and encouragement to Christin by leaving a comment about this video at her “The Journey On” blog. What a brave woman she is and I am honored to know her as a friend. She has demonstrated nothing but grace, elegance, and dignity in the midst of what has become a complete and utter nightmare for so many of us in the low-carb community concerning this Kimkins debacle.

For the sake of those who cannot view the video, the following is a summary of the video, including direct quotes made by Christin regarding her experience following the Kimkins diet. Be prepared to be shocked and stunned as she shares quite openly about the negative impact this weight loss fraud has had and may continue to have on her health. Pray for her even now as she seeks to reverse the damage that has been done.

Christin said she did this video so that others would “know exactly where I stand on this.” She explained why most people choose to lose weight: to improve their health. Period! When you are 100+ pounds overweight, then you are not living healthy, she noted.

She chose the Kimkins program because she “wanted to lose weight quickly and I thought healthfully” because she “wanted more for my life.” She wanted to “be there” for her family in the years to come. I think all of us who have ever gone on a weight loss plan can relate to that.

When she first began, the program was working great for her because “I was following the program exactly as written. I thought I was doing perfectly.” But after losing 100 pounds in five months, Christin then conspicuously noticed there was not one single doctor who approved the Kimkins diet. That’s when she started looking into who Heidi Diaz, aka Kimmer, really was and what she claimed to be.

Diaz had alleged in the marketing of Kimkins that she lost 198 pounds in 11 months on this Kimkins diet and was promoting it that way to anyone who would listen with supposed pictures to prove it. But it was this recent series of articles that included recent photographs of Diaz along with several other sites that made Christin become concerned and realize that those claims by Diaz were simply “not true.”

“Heidi did not lose the weight, she did not follow this program that she claims is safe for anybody, even for diabetics,” Christin said.

Then Christin turned in her video to the “risks” of being on the Kimkins diet that she discovered first-hand while following the program. She said she has real “concerns for everyone else that has attempted this program or will attempt this program.”

That includes first and foremost hair loss. Christin admitted that her hair “started fall out in handfuls” and it “scared” her. She estimates she has lost as much as 60 percent of what used to be “thick, full hair” prior to her Kimkins experience.

“Now it’s very thin,” she exclaimed.

Another side effect was the loss of her menstrual cycle that she believes happened from “eating so few calories and my body was becoming malnourished.” She said the hair loss and lack of periods are both tell-tale signs of anorexia, an eating disorder where victims literally starve themselves to be thin.

“I believe now the Kimkins diet program promotes a form of anorexia that I don’t know if science has even attempted touch on this yet,” Christin stated. “300 calories a day is not safe weight loss.”

Any dietary change this drastic need to be closely monitored by a doctor just like those who undergo gastric bypass surgery do, she added.

When these symptoms began to show up, Christin went on the Kimkins forums to see if anyone else was losing their hair and female cycle like she was. “What’s going on?” she pleaded to anyone who would listen to her concerns. And Christin said she “saw it come up multiple times” regarding these symptoms she was having in other people, too.

The excuse provided in response to this happening was that it was “perfectly normal and you’re going through a shed. Your body is just losing estrogen.” It was just too coincidental that “almost every other person who kept their calories under 1000 calories, probably more under 700 calories, has lost hair.”

“I don’t want to scare you,” Christin said speaking directly to people who are still following Kimkins, “but I want to bring you into the reality that there is a better way to lose weight.”

Christin asks “are you really doing this?” and urges people to take their diet plan to their doctor for him to examine it. “Take him your Fitday, take him exactly what you are eating, let him see your calorie counts,” she said.

“I’m concerned about you,” Christin pleaded.

Christin says she is sorry for supporting the “dangerous” Kimkins diet

When the time came for Christin to step into the spotlight back in June when the Woman’s World magazine cover story opportunity came up, she said she was “put on a pedestal as the ‘cover girl.’ I was the model, I was the way to do it.” But now she realizes how she was used as a pawn and seeks the mercy of those who trusted and looked up to her.

“I need to ask your forgiveness,” she said. “I’m sorry. I was wrong. Kimkins is not the way to lose weight. Kimkins is dangerous…for your health, it’s dangerous for your psyche.”

But as much as Kimkins hurt Christin up until this point, none of it was as grave as what was happening to her without even realizing it. She had the symptoms of an eating disorder that she admits made her realize she “had a problem” when she was fearful of even consuming some salad out of fear that she’d stall in her weight loss.

“I did not get fat on salad and on healthy vegetables,” Christin explained. “I got fat on sugar and white carbs.”

Getting over the fear of eating was a very difficult mental test for Christin as she now obsessed over every little bite of food she was eating and how it would impact her on the scale. She revealed that she hasn’t met anyone who has been on the Kimkins program who wasn’t “literally scared” to add food back into their diet.

“What kind of a program is it that makes you scared? Weight loss is not about fear, weight loss is about excitement, it’s about joy, it’s about recapturing your life,” Christin shared with a glimmer in her eyes. “It should be a fun journey, not a fearful one.”

And yet fear was exactly what gripped Christin and it would not let go of her.

“If I wasn’t losing everyday, then I began wondering what was wrong with me,” Christin admitted. “Nothing was wrong with me. My body was screaming at me. It was putting the brakes on and telling me you’re going about this the wrong way.”

As a devout Christian, she knew that “God created us to eat healthy foods; vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and yes, even fat.” Christin reiterated that she believes there is “validity to low-carb programs” like Atkins, Protein Power, and the like when they are done the correct way and not the Kimkins way.

“You will provide your body with all of the nutrients that it needs” when you follow low-carb by the book, Christin shared. “God did not create you to starve yourself.”

Outlining the “many dangers within the Kimkins program,” she said that it goes much deeper than just an eating disorder. She said that “something is going on within my body” and that it has been manifested in the form of “flutters” in her heart for the past month.

“Twinges, cramps, aches, all within my chest cavity right around the area of my heart,” Christin expressed, sharing that it all came to a head on Monday when the “severe chest pains…stomach aches, and nausea” were so great she was admitted to the emergency room staying there until late at night.

The doctors examined her with many tests, including an EKG, blood work, chest x-rays, and they kept her at the hospital for several hours to monitor her condition. It’s still unknown what caused the tremendous pain to come on Christin like it did on Monday night, but she was prescribed pain medications and was referred to a cardiologist for an immediate follow-up visit.

That visit to the cardiologist took place on Wednesday who shared several concerns for Christin. With a “more and more serious” look on his face after hearing Christin’s story about her starvation-mode weight loss method compliments of the Kimkins diet, he told her flat out that “our bodies can suffer damage from eating that little.”

After conducting more tests on her, including an EKG, an ECG, blood work, and “lots of listening with the stethoscope,” the cardiologist said he was not concerned about what he called a “normal” low pulse rate of 45 (incidentally, mine is in the upper 40’s since I lost nearly 200 pounds and Christin has experienced a heart rate in the low-to-mid 40’s). Even still, she says she “might get a second opinion on” just to be sure about it.

But there were real concerns that the cardiologist had for Christin, including “possible damage to my heart nodes and valves from malnutrition.” Because of that, he wants to have a sonogram of Christin’s heart to confirm whether or not there is this damage since it was inconclusive from the initial examination. He’s also concerned about some “esophageal spasms” that happen whenever there is a “rapid change in your dietary program and you lose a lot of weight.”

“Things can change on your insides,” Christin quoted the cardiologist as saying, “that it takes it a while to catch up.”

She is now medication for this “distress” with the contractions surrounding her esophagus and trying to rest as her body goes through the healing process.

Speaking passionately and directly to those who still think the Kimkins diet is a safe and effective way to lose weight in a healthy manner, Christin had an extremely clear and articulate message for them.

“If I and my story can stop anyone else from having pain and having the fear that I did that I might have caused even further damage and by attempting to be for my family I hindered my longevity with them–I was scared to death. That ride to the hospital was one of the most fearful ones that I have ever had! My husband was scared at having to face the possibility of losing his wife and his helper and his love,” she recalled from her haunting experience earlier this week.

When they got to the hospital, Christin said she and her husband “prayed together” while holding hands hoping for the best in God’s hands. And that’s something she wants to help others avoid if they will simply listen to what she has to say.

“If I can save any of you from having to go through that, then it is worth it,” Christin concluded.

Speaking about her role as the Public Relations head of Kimkins last month and as the cover girl on the Woman’s World magazine in June, Christin said she did it because she “thought [she] was helping” others as is her heart’s desire.

“It has always been my desire to help people,” she said. “And especially those that I feel a connection with, those who have struggled to lose weight their entire lives, those who have issues with obesity–something that I know all too well.”

Christin said taking on those responsibilities felt like she was “doing my part to give hope, to give assurance, to sympathize and to empathize” with people who were facing the same struggles that she had trying to lose weight. She still has those feelings for people who want to beat their obesity which is why she is still blogging and participating in a low-carb forum again.

“My heart goes out to you because I know what it’s like,” Christin stated. “I know the euphoria of losing weight quickly, but I also know the risks and the dangers involved and I am begging with you now to please listen to your body like I’ve said so many times and do the right thing.”

She added: “There is a right way and a wrong way to lose weight. And I am now convinced that starving yourself and utilizing the Kimkins program in that manner is not the right way.”

Realizing there is still a need for a community for people who desire weight loss the healthy way, Christin said we should all “stand together and learn together” the “correct way to use a low-carb program to make each other healthy, to live a longer life for our loved ones and our families.”

Christin said she’ll be back to blogging again soon and appreciates the friendship and love that has been shown to her through this horrific experience.

“I love you and I’m here for you,” she concluded.

Visit Christin and learn more about her continuing low-carb weight loss journey at her “The Journey On” blog as well as the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Discussion” forum. And if you would like to contact Woman’s World magazine to let them know about your concerns regarding the Kimkins program, their direct e-mail address is DearWW@aol.com. Perhaps if enough of us let them know about Christin and others who have suffered serious health consequences from being on Kimkins, then they may print a retraction.

Kimkins Dangers Reachs Out…

17 09 2007

On Saturday, Kimkins Dangers reached out in a post to current staff, admins and members. It is an open letter worth repeating!

Dear Kimkins Staff, Forum Admins, Affiliates and Members,

Much has happened to Kimkins over the course of the last month, none of it good. Many loved and well respected members have fled the scene, Becky, Christin and Deni among them. All of them had their reasons and many of their reasons were the same. Please click on each name to read their own accounts of their time at Kimkins. Really. Read them. These are the stories of three women who had cheered for Kimmer and Kimkins for a long time. They had promoted the diet to their friends and others. They worked very closely with Kimmer to forge the foundations of the plan that you are now following and promoting to others. You need to understand why they left. They are not “haters”. They are not “jealous”. They are not Kimmer’s ex-business partner (and neither are we, fyi.). They truly believed in Kimkins and in Kimmer and you owe it to yourself to find out why they changed their minds.

In case you haven’t noticed, there has been a mass exodus of Kimkins members recently. Some of them voluntary, but many were banned for airing their opinions or asking questions that were uncomfortable for Kimmer. They are also not haters, nor are they jealous. They were paid, lifetime members that had concerns that Kimmer would not answer. They wanted to know, from Kimmer’s own words, if the bloggers and forum posts about Kimkins were true. They wanted to know if those pictures posted on slamboard really are of Kimmer now. They just wanted to know. Instead of answers, they were banned from accessing the site that they paid for. Why is that?

One of the new admins is now posting stories that this entire mess was begun by Catherine, Kimmer’s ex-business partner. We assure you that is not the case. We do not know Catherine, have never exchanged a single email with her or have had any contact with her at all. We know of her story, but that is it. We here at Kimkins Dangers are not jealous and we are not haters.

We are very worried about everyone that is on the Kimkins diet plans. We are worried about your health first and foremost, for even though you may not believe that the diet can be dangerous, there is ample information that says otherwise. Information that comes not from personal experience, though that is also available, but from medical studies, peer reviewed case histories and the like. Real, factual, honest evidence, not supposition and opinion.

We are also concerned for those Kimkins members, staff, admins and affiliates for the possible legal liability that they may soon face. The lawyer that is spearheading the class action lawsuit has now confirmed his involvement and has been sent reams of information and evidence pertaining to the Kimkins website, it’s owner and it’s staff.

We know that the California Office of the Foster Care Ombudsman is actively investigating the situation, specifically as it pertains to Heidi’s claims of foster children in her care and the subsequent fundraiser that ensued. The same member that began that fundraiser is now asking other members to partake in yet another fundraiser, though this time for diabetes, allegedly.

Other agencies, local, state and federal are likely to become involved in the near future. This again is not simply opinion, we state this as fact. We will not say anything more on this at this particular time to protect the parties involved and the work that is being done. But be assured, the work IS being done.

If you have been contemplating leaving the sinking ship that is Kimkins, now would be the time. We have read all of the excuses, the ones that say that it does not matter if Kimmer weighs 300 pounds or more, the ones that say it doesn’t matter if she’s lied about this, that or any other thing, the ones that insist the diet is safe and healthy, even the ones that say they aren’t doing the diet, but want to remain for the friendship and camaraderie of the forums. Whatever the reason, understand that the window of opportunity is closing and the time to leave is now.

It matters greatly that Kimmer weighs 300 pounds or more. She sold her plan based on her own claims of having lost 198 pounds in 11 months. This was not true. False claims have crippled companies much larger than Kimkins and they will bring Kimkins to it’s knees as well.

It matters greatly that Kimmer has lied about this, that and the other thing. The list of her lies is very long and growing every day. Integrity is something you should place a very high value on, not eschew in favor of a “quick fix” to your weight issue.

For those who are simply staying for the friendship and the forums, there are many other places you can go where you will be welcomed and supported, yes, even LCF. Active-LowCarber forums, Jimmy Moore’s forums, Amy/Curlygirl’s website, etc., etc. Please consider joining one of these communities as you will find many other ex-kimkins members there as well.

When Kimmer states that there is nothing more dangerous than being overweight, understand that this is not true. Read the stories of those who have suffered health problems as a result of following Kimmer’s diet plans here. Read the medical evidence that shows clearly why diets such as Kimkins are truly dangerous, not only in the short term, but also in the long term. You may not have any symptoms right now, but continue along that dangerous path, and you will very likely end up far worse off than you are now. Please do your research. Your health is not worth wasting simply to lose weight faster.

Many people say “but the diet works for me!” Well, of course it does, for awhile. Anyone that doesn’t eat more than 500-800 calories a day will lose weight, for awhile. They will see the scale dropping quickly, for awhile. They will slowly begin to see other problems cropping up. Hair loss, amenorrhea, dizziness, fainting, heart palpitations and other symptoms of malnutrition and dangerously rapid weight loss. Crack cocaine makes people lose weight quickly too, but you wouldn’t use that, would you?

Please, consider the information that is presented all over the web. Read the blogs. Read the forums. Do the research and discovered for yourself the truth that you so desperately need to know. Open your eyes and you will see.

Please do it now before it’s too late.

Just wondering how much good it’ll do them since the article was run with a fake name (Kim Drake) and a fake pic?

Why are you doing this? Can’t you see Tippy Toes stands behind Heidi 100%. You see even if Heidi doesn’t have foster children it doesn’t matter to Tippy because she’s making money off of the suckers on the net. I have NO NO NO respect for Tippy and I think she should be in jail with Heidi. Here’s her post from LCF..tell me if this sounds like an innocent person…

“OK, just to answer the question, when we did the fund raiser we were a small group and we pledged a dollar per pound lost for a month. It was not a significant amount of money. We all understood the money would go to Kimmer to do as she saw fit and it was paid individually thru paypal. ”

How is that not a crime?

oh and the why are you doing this was a total joke btw hehe 😉

September 16, 2007 at 6:12 pm

ban kimmer, Exactly! Tippy is paving her road right along side Kimmer straight to jail!

I am impressed with the continuous amounts of info the commentators are revealing on the ‘Getting to know Tippy’ page:

It is so nice to be able to express the truth here without worrying about being banned or edited or having our posts deleted or getting warned like we are at Heidi’s site or LCF.

Thanks Ducky!

Is it possible that there is more than one scammer in this world?

More than one person who has no conscience?

More than one person who is engaged in mail fraud?

Is it possible that Jeannie “Tippytoes” Baitinger is quite happily enjoying her business relationship with Heidi “Kimmer” Diaz, and that their plans for fake fundraisers don’t cause EITHER of them to lose one moments’ sleep?

There have been comments, here and there, about “Poor Tippytoes!” Comments about how she’s been “used” by Kimmer. Comments about how Kimmer is “playing” her.

Like there couldn’t possibly be TWO scammers pulling the strings at Kimkins.com.

September 16, 2007 at 9:09 pm

ban kimmer

I totally agree anon. There has to be. She has been on LCF today defending herself, but she has not answered any of the important questions. She hasn’t made any sense either. She’s been a right idiot. It’s sad really. She now deserves everything coming her way!!!!

September 16, 2007 at 10:31 pm

I’ve been watching Tippy defend herself at LCF. She tries the diversionary tactic , but doesn’t pull it off. She has incriminated herself the same as Heidi by misquoting what she said, when the WRITTEN posts are in the Archives. Nor does she give a hoot for anybody joining the site because of her amazing 112 lb loss on Kimkins. However, Cuties called her on the fact that, other than one 30 day Challenge, Tippy has stuck to Kimkins at most for one solid week before rotating back to Atkins. So, although her weight loss is real, Tippy is perpetuating the “success” of Kimkins to lure in new subscribers. IOW, she’s joined the Fraud Squad!

September 17, 2007 at 10:01 am

another curious onlooker

how many days left on the countdown clock?

September 17, 2007 at 10:52 am

On the side lines

Ducky, I did not know how to contact you so I will post this in the comments section. I don’t know if you approve comments before they go up if so You don’t have to post this but please look into this.

I have been watching this kimkins thing from the side lines and feel sorry for all those duped by this woman. At any rate I was over at KimKins and I wasw looking to see if she changed anything. Well down under terms and conditions I read this and I never rememeber reading this before.

Is this new as Ibelieve it is? And is she putting this here to try and scare people away from sueing her because they may have to travel to LA to sue her. And what is she afraid a jury trial will find her guilty.

Anyways I hope you or someone look into this.

Considering that no one can waive rights prior to potential invoking of rights, this is a moot inclusion in the Kimkins TOS.

September 17, 2007 at 12:24 pm

ban kimmer

Well it looks like Heidi has been doing her google research on how to deflect again. Hehe. Too bad she isn’t a lawyer and never played one on tv.

BTW You should bring the Tippy Toes post back up to the top so we can debate what a sleazeball she is again. She deserves to be in the hotseat as she refuses to answer any of the important questions on lcf. What a snake!

September 17, 2007 at 1:37 pm

I am going to chime in on the jurisdiction issue….Heidi is doing business in all 50 states as well as outside of the U.S. This automatically gives federal jurisdiction in all 50 states so she can be sued in any federal court in the country. It does not matter what she tries to put in her TOS the law is the law and contrary to what Heidi believes, she is not above it.

September 17, 2007 at 4:00 pm

too bad kimmer

I agree that Tippy’s pants are on fire.

September 17, 2007 at 4:12 pm

Down with Kimkins!

I would like to comment on something that Kimmer/Heidi/Kim Drake stated awhile ago. She claimed, as did an affliate, that Jesica Alba was on KimKins. Well……..my husband works in the movie biz and happened to work on a movie quite recently with JA and so I was curious as to what she ate so I asked DH to glance at what she took from Craft Foodservice. Craft FoodService is a caterring company that sets up a tent on site and serves a mass array of food buffet style. Cast and crew get served from one tent and extras go to another tent. He was part of the cast and crew. Lets just say that she IS. NOT. FOLLOWING. KIMKINS!!!

I know that this is an old point to debate but it has bothered me. Some young people are so impressionable and this just really ticked me off!

September 17, 2007 at 5:23 pm

I have a new blog. So far I have just captured comments from new admins, but you can read it here:

Christin’s Defiance!

30 08 2007

The comments section of Becky’s recent post, Interesting Times, is quite revealing as to the disagreement with Kimmer (Heidi Diaz). Of note, Becky said in her comments,

As has been said elsewhere, I did not see eye-to-eye on everything. I have been told I have an incompatible view of Kimkins than just does not mesh. So be it.

From all of Kimmer’s posts, it is generally understood that her perspective about how to lose weight is fixed in stone and no deviation is allowed, otherwise you might as well do Atkins. This morning we’ve received a number of comments not to post, but to provide information that lead us to believe that Kimkins is crumbling from within. If anyone doubts this, they only need to look at how Christin is openly defying Kimmer in her replies today to members asking for help.

On the Ask Kimmer thread, Christin today wrote:

Everyone has to find their own balance. I understand the rush for whatever gets the weight off fastest. But, you also have to make sure that you’re taking care of your body as well. Kimmer’s fat might be higher than yours or lower than the next person because each person is different. You need to make sure that you are encorporating a healthy balance of good fats / lean proteins and enough veggies to give you some good nutrients and taking your vitamins every day. Really listen to your body and if you need to up your fat and calories a little it’s ok. But only eat when you are truly hungry and only till satisfcation. Don’t force yourself to the low cals. This will only get you discouraged and frustrated w/ your plan.

I did use K/E but I also encorporated a mix of Kimkins as well so I didn’t totally shun the vegetables. Veggies are good for you! )
Let’s face it, we didn’t get heavy by eating salad and broccoli, asparagus and tomatoes… it was the white carbs that did it to us! P So don’t be afraid of the veggies…. KE is good for getting into Ketosis fast and getting that initial loss going… But get some veggies too! ;)

This is so outside of Kimmer’s repeated reduce this, eliminate that, stop eating this, don’t eat that scolding that it’s remarkable to see. It seems Christin is indeed coming to her senses and it won’t be long until she herself departs or Kimmer (Heidi Diaz) locks her out like Becky!

Healthy LCer

Let’s hope Christin wakes up and hits the road. Hopefully Becky will share with her her feelings about this. Christin is continuing to give out information that is based on her ideas. She really needs to know the science behind
lowcarbing and quote Dr. Atkins or Dr. Groves. It’s like giving out a prescription without any background. Food is medicine. This is true, especially if you are diabetic.

August 30, 2007 at 7:28 pm

It really may be the start of a mutiny!

How cool is that?

August 30, 2007 at 7:30 pm

Seems like Christin is getting a conscience?

August 30, 2007 at 7:50 pm

She’s smartening up. Bad advice can be deadly and I’m sure Christin doesn’t want to hurt anyone parroting Kimmer’s advice, so she’s going to say what is a better option and healthier. It won’t be long until Kimmer locks her out. Guaranteed. No one gets away with crossing that woman.

August 30, 2007 at 8:50 pm

Christin is giving advice that directly contradicts everything that Kimmer says!! So it seems she might actually be “getting” the dangers involved? But if that’s the case…why is she continuing to work for this woman???

August 31, 2007 at 3:36 am

Christin has always had a conscience! What kind of PR/business move would it be to ban your cover girl and PR person? Christin will leave of her own accord; I have faith!

Getting to Know You: KimATC

24 08 2007

We’ve taken time to introduce you to some members of Kimkins staff. Today we shall introduce you to the person who Kimmer (Heidi Diaz) considers the ‘fitness guru’ for her members, KimATC. Since joining the Kimkins staff, no photos of Kim are including for members to see her like other staff members. We only know what information is included in her biography:

Kim has been an NATA Certified Athletic Trainer for 15 years and has worked as an athletic trainer at numerous levels including collegiate, high school, clinic plus published research. She is presently working for a very large children’s hospital coordinating a biomechanical and neuromuscular research project on ACL injuries in female athletes. She has had articles published in The American Journal of Sports medicine, Journal of Athletic Training, and JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). She holds BS degrees in athletic training and sociology from North Dakota State University and MS degrees in Sports Medicine and Biomechanics from the University of Oregon. She is planning to pursue a PhD in Epidemiology. Kim not only has extensive experience working with athletes, but was a competitive power lifter as well. EDITED AUG 27, 2007 TO REFLECT CHANGES ON WEBSITE THAT REMOVED NAMES OF CHILDREN.

Her detailed biography and unique name led us to find her posting on various forums across the internet, including Low Carb Friends, CincyMoms and Low Carbo Nostra. What’s more, the details regarding publications in various journals hones in on who she is as we find one person with publication in each mentioned above, Kim D. Barber-Foss.

  • JAMA. 1999 Sep 8;282(10):958-63
  • J Athl Train. 1999 Jul;34(3):277-284
  • Am J Sports Med. 2000 May-Jun;28(3):385-91

After reviewing the literature, it appears no other papers include her as an author, so it’s assumed she has not published more in the last seven years.

From her posts on CincyMoms, we learn she and her children moved to Cincinnati, which with her bio including her research at a children’s hospital, confirms our finding that she works at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital as a Research Biomechanist. This was learned on the North Dakota State University site where she is listed on the Board of Visitors, Emeritus Members roster. She is also listed among the Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association OATA District 4 representatives.

Rumors we’ve received led us to review some of her posts on Low Carb Friends along with her profile. From her profile, we learn she has been active poster on Low Carb Friends, with more than 14,500 posts since June 2002.

A prolific poster on the forum, she complains about her job

“The new business manager they hired a few months ago is a real prick and he’s making it hard to like coming to work.”

She writes often of financial hardships and from the information we received, posters on Low Carb Forums have sent her money and one provided her with a used car. We have been unable to verify that information, so it is nothing more than speculation.

What isn’t speculation is that Kim remains at least overweight if not obese. Yes, the certified trainer giving advice is overweight/obese, hence no photographs of her on any of the sites she posts or Kimkins. She’s even, in the past, posted that she “did send away for Univ of Iowa’s gastric bypass surgery info. But that just seems so extreme.”And earlier this year maintained in her signature that her goals this year included:

Goal #1: 25 pounds lost by 2/15/2007
Goal #2: 50 pounds lost by my birthday 4/29/2007
Goal #3: To try and find “ME” again

With at least 50 pounds to lose, if not more, dedicated to Kimkins for quite some time now, on staff at Kimkins, and a certified athletic trainer, we have to ask “how’s that Kimkins working for ya?”

If you want to ask her yourself, you can email her if you look up her contact information in the above links as her email address is publicly available on multiple sites.

She’s posted a lot on LCF about her struggles with weight and always seems to be starting over again and again, so I’m not surprised she’s still overweight. It does lead me to question her role at Kimkins though. It’s one thing to struggle on a forum, have your friends help you out and support you. It’s another to be on staff but unable to lose the weight and keep it off on a site that claims the diet works for everyone. If she’s still fat then she shouldn’t be telling others how to lose weight or exercise, she needs to do it herself and then, when she’s fit and thin, she can tell others what to do. Until then, she’s just another person who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.

August 24, 2007 at 1:02 pm

Everyone on low carb friends knows Kim is fat. Fact.

August 24, 2007 at 1:04 pm

Kim is fat, Kimmer is fat, heck even some other staff are fat. And they’re hoping suckers will keep paying them money about how to lose weight?

PT Barnum was right!

Lu Lu

Anyone whose been on lwo-carb friends for a while knows Kim is still overweight. She starts the threads to lose five and then starts another one later when it hasn’t happened. If she would take her own advice and just do it, then I’d be impressed. She hasn’t, she can’t, so I haven’t bothered to read much of what she says anymore.

Getting to Know You: KimATC by diet.MEDtrials.info

[…] continues at Just Ducky brought to you by diet.medtrials.info and […]

August 24, 2007 at 1:46 pm

Gravely concerned..

Absolutely. Just think if a Weight Watcher leader was still large. Noone would go to the meetings. They are a visual aid to see what people can do on that particular plan.

You need to bow out of giving people advice until you haven taken your own advice.

I also think that Kimmer is overweight. If she wasn’t she would have plastered lots of pictures on her site. Gee..her son teaches photoshop!!

August 24, 2007 at 1:48 pm

Too Funny

Probably why she removed her fantasy signature a couple of months ago

Certified Athletic Trainer

I’m living The Secret
1) I am financially secure 2) I am a money magnet. I receive checks from many sources. 3) My kids and I are healthy and happy and living in .4) I am a thin and beautiful woman

August 24, 2007 at 2:22 pm

She changed her signature because of people being nasty to her. Everyone struggles with their weight. How many of these comments are left by people that are a perfect size 6? This has gone too far, she is free to lend her support as she wishes, we do NOT know that she is profiting from it as KImmer is, and publicly putting her personal info out there, BESIDES ridiculing her efforst to lose weight.

You should be ASHAMED. this has nothing to do with Kimmer. And I am one on lcf that does NOT support Kimmer, do not be mistaken by that.

August 24, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Oh My!

Kimmer has one credentialed person on her staff, and that person can’t follow the diet herself?

That’s rich.

August 24, 2007 at 2:46 pm

Oh My!

“She changed her signature because of people being nasty to her. Everyone struggles with their weight.”

I don’t struggle with mine and didn’t need Kimkins to figure it out. That Kim is out front and center as an expert about fitness and is supposedly doing the diet too, um, don’t you think she should be at least fit and lean (if not thin)?

August 24, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Down with Kimkins!

I’m sorry but if you swim with the sharks, expect to get bitten! I would never go to an obese personal trainer so if she (KimATC) is in fact obese she has some explaining to do.

She claims to have her lawyer working on this. To that I say good luck! She put her self in this position and needs to take responsibility.

And as someone else pointed out, if the Kimkins diet is the “second coming” why doesn’t she apply herself and lose the weight? Oh I know! Because the diet sucks and she probably knows this.

I love eating my “just dessert”. Lowcarb cheesecake is my choice!

August 24, 2007 at 2:52 pm

From WordPress TOS: “the Content is not obscene, libelous or defamatory (more info on what that means), hateful or racially or ethnically objectionable, and does not violate the privacy or publicity rights of any third party”

Who’s site will be shut down first Kimmer’s or YOURS???

You should be ashamed, yes, (doubt you are) but you should be a little smarter in your zealous attempts to churn hits to your site. Get a “real” life…

Everything contained within posts here is publicly available information, thus not in violation of the WordPress TOS.

Secondly, KimATC is a public figure, promoted by the Kimkins site for her credentials and expertise, therefore open to public scrutiny by those seeking the truth about the Kimkins organization and its staff, paid or unpaid

August 24, 2007 at 2:57 pm

How KimATC didn’t see that Kimmer was using her for only her credentials is beyond me. KimATC should tell Kimmer to go take a leap and take back control of how her name and credentials are being used. KimATC has earned her ATC, she’s earned her degree, she’s published in respected journals. That’s all Kimmer wants…to be able to brag she has KimATC on staff. If I were KimATC, I’d tell Kimmer to shove it.

August 24, 2007 at 3:02 pm

How lovely that “Just Ducky” and all of you are so perfect (if indeed you all are real anyhow-could just be sockpuppets or inventions of Just Ducky for all I know). Whether or not this woman is overweight is none of your business and your complete invasion of her privacy is indicative of the appalling disrepect for human rights that members of this anti-Kimkins “cult” have displayed time and again while hiding behind their own anonymity. If you’re so perfect and have the courage of your convictions, stand up and be counted publicly. No? Oh, well… one can only hope that someday someone will send a lawyer to unmask you.

August 24, 2007 at 3:03 pm

“”This blog will be an expose of the Kimkins Diet website and its founder, Kimmer.

Because Jimmy Moore recently took appropriate action to disassociate himself from the Kimkins Diet Affiliate Program and promotion of the dangerous diet, he is no longer a target of our exposing the truth about Kimkins.

If you thought we dug deep to provide background on Jimmy Moore, you ain’t seen nothing yet! Come along for the ride with us as we expose the truth behind the Kimkins.com website, the Kimkins Diet and the woman behind it all, Kimmer.””

sorry, i missed the part where we were on a search and destroy mission for everyone associated with kimkins. I thought this was about heidi diaz.

Those associated with, specifically on staff and promoted as such by the Kimkins organization, are open to public scrutiny if and when they’re are perpetuating the diet or plans. Thank you for your comments.

August 24, 2007 at 3:08 pm

I wouldn’t want to be Kim right now, but do think that if she’s on staff for Kimmer, she’s fair game and should be held just as accountable as Kimmer. Her weight? Another issue, but still, see the point that someone who is held up as the guru should at least be fit even if they’re not skinny.

August 24, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Kim would do well to quit Kimkins site and tell Kimmer to remove her from the Meet your Team page immediately. Then maybe Ducky will remove this post if she’s not on staff and no longer a public figure in the company?

August 24, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Kimkins Dangers

When selling a weightloss product or plan, those involved in the selling of said product or plan have to prove that it works.

If you saw a fat person on TV selling an exercise machine, what would you think?

Kimmer IS using KimATC’s credentials to sell Kimkins – promoting the fact that they have an ATC on staff. ON STAFF.

Would you buy a treadmill if the staff person marketing it was overweight?!

I do agree that struggling with a weight issue is not something to make fun of or mock in any way and I am not doing that at all.

However, if Kimkins is THE ANSWER that Kimmer says it is, there is no reason that anyone “on staff” should have a weight problem even after being part of the program for as long as KimATC has been.

That indicates a problem with the program.

August 24, 2007 at 3:32 pm

August 24, 2007 at 3:33 pm

You people have serious problems, KimATC is a human being. and no one deserves to be attacked the way she has been in the above comments. You are just hateful and nasty.

August 24, 2007 at 3:35 pm

Ducky, if KimATC disassociated with Kimkins and quit her staff position, would you remove this post about her?

While she remains on staff and promoted as such, she remains part of the Kimkins team, thus this post shall remain. If she leaves Kimkins and is no longer on staff and is removed from the Kimkins team page, and no longer is providing advice within the Kimkins forums, then yes, this post shall be removed since she is no longer associated with Kimkins.

August 24, 2007 at 4:03 pm

Kimkins Dangers

I wanted to clarify my earlier comment – although anyone on staff at Kimkins is in some way responsible for the dangerous promotion of the dangerous diet and KimATC is not immune from that.. publishing her personal information was not a good idea, sorry Ducky.

Her email, and what looks like a work / business email, should not be involved with this debate. Her email at Kimkins would be more appropriate.

As many have said and pointed out elsewhere, KimATC is not known for promoting starvation / laxative abuse and the other dangerous information spewed about the Kimkins website.

She at least seems to have a head about her shoulders!

(But I do wish she’d put herself first and stop letting Heidi take advantage of her!)

August 24, 2007 at 4:39 pm

“Ducky” is a >300 pounder from LCF, who has been conspicuously absent from the Fascination thread for some time now. Hello Pot? Kettle calling……Is Ducky someone you want telling you what diet to follow (or not)?

August 24, 2007 at 4:43 pm

Hey Donkey……who would that be?

Alluding to someone isn’t fair….just say it and be done with it already!

August 24, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Brilliant sleuthing! I had posted some questions re KimATC over at LCF, as I’d just realized she is not only a member there but an active (putting it mildly) poster. I just wanted to know if she was a real person (as opposed to one of Heidi’s a.k.a.’s and sockpuppets), and if so, I’d like very much to ask her what is her opinion of the whole controversy, what is her opinion of anorexia, the allegations of stealth marketing, etc.

But the “Admin” immediately deleted my post (as he’s done with nearly all my other posts in the fascination thread) and sent me yet another of his unbelievably rude PMs, this one accusing me of “attacking” KimATC.

So I’m glad to read your blog entry with all known info re this aspect of the controversy gathered into a single page. Fascinating stuff. I absolutely had no idea KimATC ever had a weight problem, let alone that she continues to struggle with it while dispensing fitness wisdom to one and all both at LCF and on-staff at the Kimdom.

August 24, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Kimkins Dangers

Ducky isn’t telling us what diet to follow or not. He is simply illuminating the dangers inherent in the Kimkins plan.

If you think it’s so great and healthy, why not post some *factual* information that supports that – such as peer reviewed medical studies showing how great and healthy a VLCD with laxative abuse is?

August 24, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Oh dear gosh….as if those from LCF don’t see the “Kimber” part of the Donkey name and are supposed to think it’s Kimber.

Give it a rest whoever you are, cause you’re not Kimber.

And no matter how fat or thin Ducky is, Ducky isn’t selling anyone a diet or taking your money. Kimmer is and she’s made millions off the suckers led to believe starving is the way to go.

August 24, 2007 at 5:19 pm

Kim is simply a prop for Kimmer, a prop to help lend credibility to her insane plans. Kim would do well to quit being used by Kimmer and publicly denounce the plan as unhealthy.

She reads and posts at LCF and saw everything about that child that you posted about here and DID NOTHING to help that child. She’s on staff and DID NOTHING when Deni was cheering her on, DID NOTHING when others were cheering her on, and DID NOTHING when Kimmer implied that what she was eating was fine because she has stored body fat, even if that’s just 500-cals a day!

Kim ATC should be held accountable like every other peon staff member over there who sits idly by while Kimmer continues on and makes millions at the health expense of others.

August 24, 2007 at 6:00 pm

I think everyone here that’s said Kimmer is using KimATC only for her credentials is right. Kimmer is using Kim to make more money and from what I’ve hear Kim isn’t even being compensated.

August 24, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Crown of Snarls

Ducky, you are now considered a “shock bloqqer”

Shock bloq Ducky

Too freaking funny!

The truth makes a lot of people angry, keep up the good work.

August 24, 2007 at 6:17 pm

I feel bad for Kim. Not for the fact you easily found all the information you did and included it here, but because it’s obvious she’s just a puppet to Kimmer.

Kimmer is definitely promoting Kim as a reason to join and do exercise (that she herself says you don’t have to do, which is why she needs Kim, otherwise she’d be a hypocrite saying it now after years of saying you don’t need to exercise).

I too hope Kim quits and tells Kimmer to close up shop for her dangerous diet.

August 24, 2007 at 6:20 pm

Too Damn Funny

Hey Ducky!

Did you see what the LCF Admins said about you?

Since certain shock bloggers are going far beyond respectable reporting with vicious attacks on the weight of individuals and photoshopped faces placed on obese bodies – among other sleazy tactics – we are no longer permitting links and discussions of certain blog entries here. Please visit those blogs directly if interested in reading them. Thank you.

That was, of course, after the requisite housecleaning to remove all the links from this morning to here!

I BOOKMARKED YOU…..I’ll be back!

August 24, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Crown of Snarls

Excellent post!

Why oh why is KimATC being given a pass on HER responsibilities to that child?

Oh wait: could it be because people on LCF like her?
So she stood by silently while a child starved, but we like her, she’s a nice person.

This is sickning to even try to defend her.

August 24, 2007 at 6:34 pm

Looks like Jimmy Moore was right about one thing, LCF is a bunch of Nazi’s!

August 24, 2007 at 6:37 pm

Said it many posts ago, will say it again

August 24, 2007 at 6:37 pm

Sweeping thread-sanitation has taken place on Low Carb Friends in the “Why the Fascination with Kimmer Thread. ” All posts made today referring to not only this blog but others have been removed, and this warning added by LCF Administration:

“Since certain shock bloggers are going far beyond respectable reporting with vicious attacks on the weight of individuals and photoshopped faces placed on obese bodies – among other sleazy tactics – we are no longer permitting links and discussions of certain blog entries here. Please visit those blogs directly if interested in reading them. Thank you.”

Ducky, keep up the good, investigative work. We will never get to the bottom of this Kimkins/Kimmer fiasco without your digging. And with the thread sanitation, post removal, account suspensions, warnings, etc. happening at LCF, it appears, unfortunately, that the LCF administration has become as paranoid as Kimmer.

August 24, 2007 at 7:10 pm

KimATC is allowed to post about it on the lose 5 pounds thread though.

I agree that KimATC should quit Kimkins, it’s making her look sleazy!

August 24, 2007 at 7:14 pm

Ducky, watch out KimATC has her divorce attorney on this!

“They crossed the line talking about my kids and my job. I will take legal action and have already spoken to the attorney that did my divorce.”

Somehow she hasn’t connected the above quote that names her kids is FROM THE KIMKINS site and in public view there! She’s blaming you! She needs to blame Kimmer for exposing her kids!

And her job, well again, her bio says where she’s published, you connected the dots with those journals. Oh, and SHE SAID HER NAME HERSELF on LCF at least twice as “Kim Foss” when she was patting herself on the back about her boss saying something nice for a change!

August 24, 2007 at 7:23 pm

I hope to God people don’t go after Kim at work or her family in any way. I am disappointed to see some of this stuff posted.

As some of us have known KimATC since early 2000 and cared a lot for her, we’ve been advising KimATC to quit her job with Kimmer since the whole red dress controversy began.

Kim used to adamently support Kimmer on LCF constantly, and would complain when anything negative was brought up. At that time, KimATC said she knew the red dress photo was the current Kimmer. When questioned further, she admitted to never meeting Kimmer, just through the internet and possibly telephone.

KimATC refused to ever acknowledge being paid to work for Kimmer, although she did announce on LCF that she had a 4th job – working for Kimkins. I’m assuming she referred to the fact that Kimmer was paying her.

I’m also assuming Kimmer told her to quit posting on the Kimkins controversial stuff on LCF, as KimATC had the admins remove all her posts, and she wasn’t heard from again until today.

KimATC – since you are reading this – DO THE RIGHT THING! Quit letting Kimmer take advantage of you! Is the money she’s paying you really worth this?

It’s too bad it came to this Kim, I wish you would have listened to ‘your lcf friends’ many weeks ago.

August 24, 2007 at 7:25 pm

Stop the Insanity!

Kim is a published author in scientific journals and allowed that to be in her bio. It’s a no-brainer someone can look up who she is in pubmed with very simple keywords and name comparisons.

Besides that, she’s said who she is in her posts on LCF, so her name is out there already by her own words. So are her kids names. Big deal, who is going to do anything to her kids? She’s used them as her avatar on LCF for a while now and never thought it was a problem until today?

And what exactly is her divorce attorney going to tell her? Sorry Kim, your information is public? It says right in her bio she works at a children’s hospital. She’s on the lists linked to with her work information (she should be thankful she didn’t use her home address for those!)

She is staff for Kimkins and until she disassociates, I think she’s as culpable as everyone else on staff for the dangerous information.

You play in the dirt, you get dirty.

Quit Kimkins KimATC!

August 24, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Lots of good comments here. Kim ATC should realize that her association with Kimmer and Kimkins affects her credibility and that disassociating now is a good option to consider. There is too much bad stuff happening at Kimkins and Kim doesn’t need this all. I think she should quit. Forget the lawyer-upping crap, just get out of Kimkins and be done with it.

August 24, 2007 at 7:52 pm

Fluffer Nutter

Kim all I can say is you lay with dogs you get up wtih fleas.

August 24, 2007 at 10:12 pm

The most annoying/frustrating part of this whole fiasco today on LCF is that Kimmer et al are probably out celebrating tonight. A great fount of information has been silenced.

August 24, 2007 at 11:11 pm

medusa – that may be true, but KimATC has on her own chosen Kimmer over LCF. Who knows if Kimmer told her to make a choice or not??? It wouldn’t surprise me.

I just can’t believe she chose the faudulent Kimmer??? There is just too much information here for anyone to follow Kimmer. Those that continue to support Kimmer and her fraud must have their heads in the sand at this point.

August 24, 2007 at 11:13 pm

Fluffer Nutter

Now I’m thinking Kimmer is paying her….LCF hobby and no income, easier to leave than a paycheck!

Ducky said above that if she quit Kimkins, he’d remove the post here…she just left LFC, that’s saying something without saying a word!

August 24, 2007 at 11:17 pm

If KimATC is being paid, she should probably talk to that attorney about what will happen to her if there are any lawsuits filed against Kimkins.

August 24, 2007 at 11:26 pm

flowerpower, I wasn’t clear in my post.

The “great fount of information” I was referring to was the “Why the fascination with Kimmer?” thread on LCF, not KimATC.

The recent posts on that thread were thought-provoking, thoughtful, concerned and relevant re the dangers of Kimkins. Now the silence on that thread is deafening.

August 25, 2007 at 12:13 am

Part of the silence on the fascination thread is because so many of our posts were (and are continuing to be) deleted as soon as almost as soon as they’re posted — and then we were/are treated to rude/hostile PMs from “Admin”.

The last one I received was — and I am not kidding — a warning that I am AGAIN in violation of the LCF TOS because of the “extensive use of font and color” in my posts.

August 25, 2007 at 1:25 am

MeeMee729, you’re not alone. I can’t believe they censured you for so-called “extensive use of font and color” in your posts. That is utterly ridiculous.

I also received a “warning” from the LCF Admins this morning after I made a post that included a quote from another forum member. Mine was an innocuous post and was not rude or off-topic in any way. This was the message I received from the LCF Admin’s:

“Please do not just post to quote other posts. This adds to the length of the thread unnecessarily.”

I found it rather odd because posters before me had included many quotes in their posts. This happened shortly before the thread was sanitized. After receiving the “warning,” I discovered that my account had been suspended.

The thread tonight continues to remain relatively silent, with only a few senior members’ posts having passed muster with the Admins.

August 25, 2007 at 1:41 am

August 25, 2007 at 1:42 am

LCF admin nazis

Yep, LCF are definately as paranoid as Kimkins with there cleaning up of the thread.

I really dont’ understand them. Isn’t it to their benefit that people are having discussions on there saying how kimkins (technically their COMPETITION) is bad?

LCF admins seriously need to lighten up. I too am getting sick of the contstant infractions for pathetic reasons. Too much font and colour in your post? good grief give me a break. I dont’ know if it’s one admin in particular or all 3 of them that are freaks.

What’s the name of another good low carb discussion board? I’m done with LCF.

August 25, 2007 at 1:57 am

Sorry about that confusion medusa – I have not been following the thread on LCF the past few weeks. Today was the first time I looked at it in quite some time. It’s too bad so many posts on that thread were deleted today. So many of them supported KimATC as a helpful lowcarb friend.

I know there has been lots of information about anorexia and eating disorders, but I have not spent time reading that stuff, as it does not apply to my life at this time. I did learn enough from the early on posts to watch the behavior of my own children, though.

KimATC has helped many people at LCF. She has been relentless with her support of anyone with injuries, me included. Her presence will be missed. Her support of Kimmer will certainly not be missed by many.

Kim now realizes, I’m sure – that she has put way too much of her personal information out there, considering she continues her support of the fraudulent Kimmer. When she signed on to become a staff member at Kimkins, she probably should have watched her back more closely. She knew from years ago that many people did not agree with Kimmer’s theories.

But, she made the choice to leave LCF – maybe her employer forced it, but it was still Kim’s choice.

August 25, 2007 at 3:36 am

Is that why the fascination thread is so quiet??? I knew I was missing something today! What in the WORLD are they so afraid of????

Meemee, I remember your post regarding KimATC. There was NOTHING wrong with it. Those administrators are such losers.

August 25, 2007 at 4:42 am

Since its obvious that people can pretend to be whomever and whatever they choose online – how do we know for certain that this KimATC person is the same as the published, highly accomplished, physical trainer Kim? Perhaps that name was chosen because there’s a verifiable identity trail behind it. I mean, I’ve never heard of a 300 pound personal trainer educated in sports medicine and working as a – what? – biomedical whatever, but broke and needing donations???? Very strange to me, just doesn’t add up. Of course, anybody can get into money trouble, but with all of those credentials it just seems like that person would be sitting pretty or at least have plenty of resources.

Just my opinion, but the whole KimATC person sounds about as legit as Kimmer, who’s also trying to convince people that she’s a freelance writer.

Seems also that someone with that much going for them wouldn’t have time to make 50,000 message board posts – but whatever!

I’m not sure where the line of decency is regarding KimATC’s personal information… but nonetheless, I’m very disappointed by LCF lately.

Shame on LCF…
* for NOT allowing discussion and dissenting viewpoints (as allowed for other controversial diet threads) on Kimkins support threads where they could actually *MAKE A DIFFERENCE*.

* for using google ads to draw more and more people to the Kimkins starvation WOE with ads for “free Kimkins forums”.

* for increasing the importance and seeming legitimacy of the Kimkin woe by (at the very LEAST) not grouping it in “Other Plans”.

Many diet message boards DO care about ensuring that the diets their sites discuss are healthful, and immediately close threads that promote kimkins, VLCD, long-term fasting, etc. Not only are Kimkins support threads allowed, but now concerned “friends” aren’t allowed to post a gentle “hey, isn’t 500 calories too low?” Isn’t anyone concerned that LCF probably has many more 14 year olds viewing its site (and possibly even being cheered on, unwittingly) than the infamous paid diet site?

Meemee: the excessive font and color violation is pretty unbelieveable. Wow… many people use customized font/colors for their posts!

Kimkins Staff Fitness Guru is Overweight » Kimkins Controversy

[…] Kimkins Exposed has written a lengthy and controversial post about KimATC, the Kimkins staff diet guru: With at least 50 pounds to lose, if not more, dedicated to Kimkins for quite some time now, on staff at Kimkins, and a certified athletic trainer, we have to ask “how’s that Kimkins working for ya?” […]

August 25, 2007 at 3:47 pm

“The thread tonight continues to remain relatively silent, with only a few senior members’ posts having passed muster with the Admins.”

Check again…even one of those went “poof” and another was edited.

For those you asking about another lowcarb support site–I think Active Low Carbers is pretty cool–and they have an active Anti-K blogs thread that allows people to actually discuss what’s going on in the Kimmer controversy. Can’t talk about LCF much on it, which is ok by me…but plenty of freedom to talk about Kimmer and these blogs.

August 25, 2007 at 3:54 pm

Hi Medusa. So sorry this has happened to you too. As far as your account being suspended, I think we can assume the Admin is reading this and the other anti-K blogs, and suspending your account is his way of punishing you. Poor little dictatortot.

August 25, 2007 at 4:00 pm

I for one am boycotting Netrition. As most of you probably already know, Netrition = Forum Friends LLC = lowcarbfriends.com

They are or appear to be the same company and share the same geographic/physical mailing address and telephone number:

20 Petra Lane, Suite 6
Albany NY 12205-4977

Now, as far as this particular Admin is concerned — is he the sole authority? What do the other admins (the list I have is comprised of Cheri, Dottie, etoi, and Jim) think about the whole Kimmer/Kimkins mess, and what do they think the control freak tendencies of He Who Shall Remain Nameless? Are any of the other admins willing to intervene in this reign of error?

August 25, 2007 at 4:10 pm

Thank you Kan! I’ve been having a little pity party all week, LOL Sorry to everyone who had to listen, and I appreciate the opportunity to vent.

The PM re “extensive use of fonts and colors” was as I said the last straw for me. For one thing, absolutely nothing in the TOS says anything about the use of fonts and colors. I only ever used one color in any of my posts — blue, because it’s easy to read and I happen to like that color for typing, so sue me — and I only ever use one font in any of my posts, too — Comic Sans MS — ’cause it’s cute 🙂

Here’s the relevant section of the PM…
Excessive use of fonts and color
Please post in the default font and color that everyone else uses. It is not appropriate to make your posts stand out compared to others. Thank you.

Not appropriate to make my posts stand out compared to others? What about so many members who use colorful Signatures in every single one of their posts? Colorful signatures spread over several lines and using fonts, smileys, etc. They don’t “stand out” ?

Isn’t that the whole purpose for having those features on the board? So that people can use them, to express their individuality?

Oh wait, individuality is bad and must be stopped. D’oh!

Correction: It’s Friends Forums LLC, not Forum Friends. Sorry about the goof.

LCF Admins Hypocritical??

I found it rather odd when I checked out the LCF “Fascination” thread this afternoon that post #7998 posted on 08-25-2007 at 02:23 p.m. had been allowed/approved by LCF Admins, especially in light of their warning yesterday where they stated that…

Thank you.””

I think the inclusion of the before and after pictures in post #7998 is insensitive and in extremely bad taste, especially the “before” picture. I may be way off base here, so I’d be interested in finding out if it strikes anyone else the same way. To my mind, LCF Admins are patently hypocritical.

Here is the post by kingstu:

“Kimmer has done a fantastic job of taking pieces from Atkins, Stillman, and South Beach, combining them into one very low calorie diet and dispensing nutritional advice with no credentials whatsoever. She has created a “cult of personality” which is evident by the number of her defenders on the Interweb.

What boggles my mind is how can even one person defend her when she refuses to post a photograph or even give an in person interview? Has anyone seen Jimmy Moore’s blog. You can’t stop the guy from posting photos, youtube videos, doing interviews with anyone who will listen. What kind of weight loss “expert” doesn’t post her own photo and instead posts so many different photos of different people claiming to be herself that it’s almost laughable.

What kind of person makes up success stories and posts photos of professional models as after photos?

I’m going to start the Stukins Weight Loss program.

You too can experience the incredible transformation on the Stukins weight loss plan. It will make you thinner, change your race and even make you a fabulously wealthy musical genius.”

Should the LCF Admins delete the post and pictures, I have saved them and would be glad to send them on to you.

August 25, 2007 at 7:51 pm

lowcarblounge.com No pro-kimmer discussions, no font and color violations, no bad aftertaste. From people who acted as administrators and moderators at ADBB and LCBB. Come on over.

August 25, 2007 at 9:08 pm

Robin Bayne

MeeMee and Medusa, I have been “warned” about things on LCF also, which is why I rarely post there anymore.

It is very strange that everyone on LCF talks about how Kimmer deletes posts and reads PMs, when that very thing is why Kimmer and many others originally left LCF to start a new site.

August 26, 2007 at 2:14 am

Because my previous post is a just a tad confusing (actually, it’s very confusing), I just wanted to summarize what I was trying to get across:

I’m surprised that the LCF Admins allowed the posting of a picture of an anonymous obese man in a parody ,especially in light of the fact that they became so incensed over the “vicious attacks on the weight of individuals and photoshopped faces placed on obese bodies.” I don’t know who “obesemanpa4″ is but I’m sure he’d be mortified if he saw that he was not only a “before” picture in a thread in a diet forum but had also morphed into old Snoop Dog.

I saved the photos in case the Admins suddenly decided that maybe it wasn’t such a great idea to have the pictures posted in the Fascination thread, or maybe thought they might be opening themselves up to some legal action by obesemanpa4. I just wanted them saved for posterity…or some such thing.

I’m afraid my sense of humour has become tainted because of this whole LCF fiasco. I am furious that they deleted my innocuous posts, sent me ridiculous e-mails as to why those posts were deleted, and then capped it off with suspending my account.

I’m blaming the LCF Admins for my inability to keep a train of thought together long enough to make an intelligent post, which doesn’t beg questions or become lost in translation. :^)

August 26, 2007 at 5:22 am

One final note and then I’ll shut up. Re my comment about boycotting Netrition. I want Netrition/Friends Forums LLC to appoint/hire new LCF admins who are fair, impartial, and polite. But as a friend who has a kind heart pointed out, a boycott would hurt the board members themselves. So I’m feeling rather guilty for even bringing it up.

August 26, 2007 at 5:54 am

Umm I’m sorry but I don’t give a crap how nice and supportive
KimATC was on LCF. She should be ashamed of herself for prostituting her credentials to Kimmer for a quick buck. I don’t care how hard up you are for money, this is totally unethical.
Was she active at all on Kimmers board? Was there an “Ask the trainer” thread or anything? If she was pretty much seen (on the team page) but not heard, than that is exactly what she was doing….selling herself.

August 27, 2007 at 6:52 pm

I was curious about another Kimkins staffer, Ailsa, so I googled “Ailsa Lincolnshire”. The first site is an amateur busty BBW escort by the name of Ailsa who escorts in Lincolnshire and London. Quite a strange coincidence!

August 27, 2007 at 9:43 pm

I’m so sorry my friend KimATC got involved with the Kimkins site and that it has led to all this. Yes, she’s real, a very knowledgable athletic trainer, former high school athletic trainer (job she loved but which didn’t pay well), a former power-lifter, a great mom, a super-sweet person. She answered tons of people’s questions about various aches and pains on the LCF boards.

The car story is true! I’m so glad she took that beast off my hands! … and still got some use out of it. We turned the handover into a fun, fun “girls weekend”.

Kim may be overweight, but did you know that fat people can be fit, too? **gasp** It’s true! I’ve seen it.

*This poster has no affiliation with either Kimmer/Heidi, KimATC, and is not a KimBot.* I just think KATC should not be dissected, but do what you think is right. However, if she knew what was going on and was in on it, then all’s fair!

September 11, 2007 at 3:25 am

If KimATC is truly gone from the Kimtanic, why does this thread even exist?

October 3, 2007 at 3:39 pm

Please direct everyone to ktla.com..a major news channel in California. They’ve exposed Kimmer/Heidi on National News and have her on video surveillance. They try to talk to her but she jumps in her car!!!

One news channel down…we won’t stop until she’s on Dateline with Stone Phillips. She can be qualified as a predator too!!!
