The woman who was Kimmer’s (Heidi Diaz) business partner from April until September 2006 is Catherine. Her husband, Martin Higgins, hosts the Slamboard series detailing the partnership and the growing concern Catherine had over Kimmer’s integrity and business practices that eventually led to Kimmer (Heidi Diaz) buying her out of the partnership.
Catherine, until today has remained silent about what happened, allowing her husband to write about what happened at Slamboard.
Today she broke her silence and posted this on Low Carb Friends:
I’m the Catherine in question and I have been avoiding the boards during this saga, is it three months now? I was afraid I’d get sucked in and spend too much time on it and I’ve never been much of a board poster to start with. You can see I’ve been a member here since 2004 and mostly I lurked.
I don’t have much to add to what Martin has said about my involvement with Kimkins. He had access to my records, and as well I have fact checked all his posts. If you have questions about what happened or what I knew I would encourage you first to read all the posts and really pay attention to the dates. I was done with Kimkins and Heidi at the end of September 2006, before the majority of these success stories and before the red dress picture. Look at the Wayback Machine.
Heidi presented me with the few success stories we had using elaborate back stories in her emails to me about how she knew the ladies personally or had assisted them in PMs here at LowCarbFriends. Other success stories were people we both knew from the boards (Cheryl, for example). I believed that the diet worked and I saw so many people losing weight with it that the idea of faking stories would have been ludicrous.
I thought Heidi was a mean, manipulative, lying piece of work by the time our partnership was over. But even then I still thought she was thin and I still believed that she had foster kids. When I saw the red dress lady in June of 2007 something clicked. It had to be fake and if that picture was fake how much else was fake?
People have doubted and criticized me at times throughout the fascination threads, especially in the beginning when most of this was speculation. When Martin and I decided to go public with the story and try to find out the truth I knew we would deal with some of that and I have tried to have a thick skin about it. But really, I think it has been much harsher at times than was warranted because most of you do not “know” me. However, Jimmy Moore, Becky, and Cutie do know me and I think they will all agree that they have no reason to believe I was in on the deception. Heidi lied to me just like she lied to them.

Catherine was nothing but professional in all my encounters with her. She exhibited kindness every step of the way in dealing with me and I never lost respect for her even when “The Kimmer” tried to trash her good name in an e-mail exchange where I was copied in. Catherine, I’m proud of you and only wish I had followed you out the door when you left.

I am wondering though, did Catherine or Martin ever answer to kimmers accusations about their moving to Malta to evade taxes?

I stand with Catherine. I can testify to her professionalism and integrity in every dealing I had with her. Looking back, I remember certain questions and comments Catherine made to me privately, that I realize were her effort to find the truth about Kimmer without gossiping or besmirching Kimmer’s name. Catherine behaved honorably, and left when she had grave doubts about Kimmer.
Kimmer, on the other hand, maligned Catherine behind her back to me and to others (Cutie can confirm this) and suggested Catherine had done things that it has since become known that Kimmer herself did.
Catherine’s only mistake was the same as many of us — believing someone who turned out to be a fraud. She has made the effort to correct that mistake, by exposing the truth about Kimmer. Despite Heidi’s ridiculous accusations that this is about money and jealousy from Catherine, I think this is just an effort to put things right.
Anyone who has gotten close enough to Kimmer to get badly burned by her knows how that feels.
P.S. Martin and Catherine have no reason to answer Kimmer’s spurious ‘tax evasion’ accusations. Kimmer is a known liar and scammer, with a long history of distracting unwanted attention from herself by transferring doubt and blame to her opponents. It is her veracity that should be doubted, not theirs. They have both made their real names, faces, and location publicly known in all of this. They are not the ones hiding something.

I disagree with that. That is the same tactic that Heidi/Kimmer uses.
If they even jokingly said or wrote something to kimmer intimating such a thing, kimmer will expose it.
If they use the same logic as she does, how will that make them look “more” honest than she?

I believe that Martin did address the tax question at one point. I’m not sure if it is on this blog or another, but it was something along the lines that they did move to Malta for lower taxes, but that they are not evading anything…they simply relocated for a lower tax base.
There is nothing illegal about that whatsoever.

Itscloudyinhere, Catherine never said anything, even jokingly, about tax evasion to Kimmer. Canadian citizens are only subject to Canadian income taxes if they are Canadian residents. Americans must answer to the IRS no matter where they live — the difference may be what is giving this smear tactic any traction.
Lower taxes was only one small consideration in our decision to move — Malta also has an amazing warm climate (something unavailable in Canada) and a tight knit Mediterranean culture. We got tired of shoveling snow and hearing about drug busts and shootings (yes, even in Canada).

See answers like that make much more sense than avoiding the subject or spinning the tale as we see Heidi/kimmer doing at every turn.
I’m glad there’s no hidden funnies to be made into something sinister.

I’d move, too. I’m a Mediterranean lover (wannabe! I’m Sicilian), I lived two hours from Canada (also Canadian by heritage!) and most people called my region “Junior Canada”. We get sick of shoveling, drugs, and selfishness.
I’d move to Malta in a heartbeat should my finances afford the move.
